Suburban Farmer was founded by me, Mike Wilson in 2009 after 10 years of practicing self-sufficiency at home, for friends and family and on small hobby farms and aquaculture projects.
Since then I have been privileged to install chicken pens, aquaponic systems and vegetable gardens for hundreds of families, introducing and helping them to grow their own food.
Like the produce you find at the shop, I feel the grow-your-own movement has slowly become a little stale and uninspired. My passion and enthusiasm for self-sufficiency has resulted in this blog, where I hope to help you become enthusiastic about your garden and confident in your new found knowledge.
My ideas are practical and developed for modern day living. Behind (my attempt at humour) is real knowledge that you can use to manage a productive backyard and bring a little nature back into your hectic lifestyle.
I passionately believe that by keeping things fun you will be more likely to keep up your efforts. Enjoy your time in your backyard! And maybe find a new way to escape the stresses of everyday life.
I hope I can help inspire you to look at your backyard in a new way, and enjoy the many rewards from growing your own.
